Footy, Hair, and Parmas

Well I suppose you could say I've had a very "new experience"-filled week so far!!

We lost Sunday's footy grand final to Mary's, but our boys gave it their all, and that's what counts. Plus, Mary's won four years in a row or something rediculous like that, so I'm guessing that if they weren't there we'd have won. Cheerleading is SO FUN! I feel like I missed out in high school now....except that the Pine Crest cheerleaders had no brain and would've caused mine to shrivel as well if I was forced to hang out with them. Anyway, pictures are up from that if you want to see. Here's a preview:

I'm the "O" if you couldn't tell by the height difference. We spell "donut" because our college, Whitley, is in the shape of a donut.

On Monday night Mel and I impulsively dyed our hair. Before you all freak out, mine doesn't look any different, unless you're really looking for it. I was going for a light strawberry-blonde look, but I guess my hair's too dark to begin with, so it turned out just a little lighter and a bit redder than my hair naturally is. I freaked out during the process though, and Boosh caught it all on camera. I'll post the pictures up as soon as I get them off of Mel's computer. Mel's hair, on the other hand....well, her color is now "Violet Black." It's black with a purple tint to it....looks very cool. And I can now say that I know how to dye hair since I did it!

Tonight Mel, Boosh, Lara, and I went out to Puggs for parmas (chicken parmesan) for dinner, since at Whitley we would've eaten "beef roll." I didn't have the desire to discover what delicacy that might be. (Points for alliteration! Oh gosh, I'm such a dork. I blame Jodi.) After dinner we went to Border's, where I just couldn't pass up a new book by Ted Dekker, even though it's hard cover. I figured I'll need something to keep me entertained on the plane ride to and from Cairns and at night on spring break. I'm proud that I only walked out of there with one book, because I was definitely eyeing 5 or 6 more. Then we went to New Zealand Natural, where I ate mango sherbet, even though it went against the principle of not eating ice cream on a cold night. Yuuummmmm. Definitely worth it.

I finished reading The Bean Patch, a memoir written about an 83-year-old who was abused as a child. She was beaten so severely when she was four that she was pronounced dead and taken to the morgue, where by some miracle the mortician begged the doctor to check her out because he "heard her tell him in his head that she was still alive." I think I counted four deliberate attempts on her life made by her parents, and a few by her older siblings. Her father killed at least two of her younger brothers, and there are other stories of him killing several mistresses and men he owed money to. Tomorrow I'm going to start doing research so I can start writing my paper on it on Friday. I also finished my psychology activity/experiment/I don't know what to call it because it was a dumb, pointless assignment that's due tomorrow. I have 7 whole hours of school tomorrow....5 of them straight in a row. That would have been a normal day if I were in high school or younger, but in college, that's a CRAZY hectic day. I'll be surviving on a large Earl Grey, one sugar, NO MILK, leave the teabag in please. I always get crazy looks whenever I order that, because in Australia apparently people don't drink strong black tea without milk and with so little sugar in it. Several times I've had the person taking my order ask if I was sure I didn't want milk. I must sound unsure of myself, because tea isn't the only time I get asked that. One time for breakfast I ordered eggs on raisin toast, as opposed to white toast, and the man asked if I was serious. When I said yes, I'm serious, and I'm sure that that's what I want, he laughed and looked at me as if to say, you're joking, right? When he finally realized I really was being serious, he asked if it tasted good. I felt like saying, nah, it's pretty gross, but I'm ordering it anyway. Maybe I just ask for crazy foods.

Friday is WANC-- Whitley Annual Nautical Cruise, AKA Booze Cruise. I'm going to wear my turquoise dress with some cool new jewelery I bought on Saturday to go with it. And then I'll be spending the rest of my weekend writing my social work paper and researching/writing my part of the Dangerous Earth project. I have to write 1000 words (about 5 pages double-spaced) describing and talking about the impact of the flooding of the Mississippi River in 1993. This will be a very busy weekend indeed!

FYI, Jodi, Dodd is open. In fact, Dodd and Mission are the only dining halls open right now.

The picture was quite awesome, by the way, and the memoir sounds crazy! How can a life be like that??? Oh my.

Good luck with your busy busy weekend!
