Being Ambitious: Two Posts in One Day!
I'm just so excited about Fiji that I can't wait until tomorrow to post again! Never mind that I should be typing up my massive amounts of psychology notes, this is more fun. I've completely planned out my trip and am waiting for responses from Advantage Travel (to make sure that I can fly on the days I want to) and Aquarius Fiji (I sent them another e-mail since they didn't answer my last one...and if they don't answer this one in a few days I'm going to call them). So here's the tentative schedule:
November 28: fly from Melbourne to Nadi, Fiji. Stay at Aquarius Fiji for one night.
November 29: think "happy birthday" to Dad while boarding Wanna Taki. This is a mini-cruise that goes around all the Yasawas for 3 days/2 nights. It has a "swim with manta rays" activity! How cool!!
December 1: come back to Nadi. Stay at Aquarius Fiji for one more night.
December 2: fly home!
Here are the websites in case you are as excited as I am and want to check them out:
http://www.aquarius.com.fj/home.htmlhttp://www.awesomefiji.com/wanna_taki.aspxThe whole trip except meals when I'm not on the cruise will cost less than $300 US. Can't possibly pass up a trip to Fiji for such a little price tag!!!! SO CAN'T WAIT!
Benvenuti a Venezia!!!
My goodness my Italian is fading quickly...it just took me way too long to think of how to say Welcome to Venice. Well, that will be rectified shortly, because I GOT IN!!!! Yup, I'm going to Venice next semester. Yay! Of course the Duke people seem to not care much that I'm on the other side of the world, because they e-mailed me a bunch of forms to fill out and mail back, to be received by October 27th. My favorite is going to be the one that both I and my parents need to sign. What a lovely waste of postage in mailing it all over the place.
So....apparently I scared off people from reading my last post, because I know of about three people who got through that one....congrats to Mel, Tia, and Lelo. Give yourselves a nice pat on the back. So for all the other slackers who only read the short posts, I'll keep this one to a minimum. Not much news to tell anyway.
I didn't have use of my computer all weekend long because of my error in being nice. I have since learned that if you give out your adapter to someone who lent theirs out and didn't get it back, you too will not get it back. So much for being kind to someone with a paper due in three hours and a powerless computer.
Since I had no computer, I got a whole lot of work done. I went down to the horrible computers in the lab, brought my music, some water, and TimTams (the best chocolate cookies EVER!), and managed to type up all my bio notes for the semester so far. All 42 typed pages of them. That took up all of Saturday and part of Friday. The rest of the weekend I basically spent sleeping....or eating. I'm telling you, I'd make an excellent koala.
Sunday night I went to Battle of the Bands (can't spend a whole weekend without going out at least once!). I thought Whitley performed pretty well, even though they went first. Apparently the judges didn't agree, because we came in dead last. They obviously had acute memory failure and just didn't remember how good we were compared to some of the other bands who were ranked above us.
Oh! I almost forgot. (Apparently my memory isn't much better than the judges'!) On Friday afternoon, Jen and I went over to STA (the student travel agency) and booked our Whitsundays sailing trip! We'll be staying in the Koala hostel, in the mixed dorm. That'll be interesting. The second day we get there we'll board the Summertime, which is a racing sailboat, and we'll stay there for 2 nights. There's only 10 passengers on this one, so it should be really good. I think a husband and wife team run it, and I know that it definitely has diving on board, with their own equipment and licensed dive guide. Yay for getting to dive the Great Barrier Reef again!!! Jen and I get to stay in the squashed 6-bed section at the bow of the ship. Should be interesting. At the very least, we'll make a whole bunch of new friends! After the cruise, we get a whole day to relax at the beach or do whatever our whim desires, and then we fly back on November 2nd.
Today after I finished my classes I went into STA to take a look at their Fiji brochures. I still haven't looked through them, but I really liked that one hostel I found. It used to be a private home, and was converted to a 40-bed hotel/hostel. It has its own private 2km beach, and the dorms are 2-bed, and have air conditioning and each one has its own bathroom. And the best part is, it's only $17 US a night!!!! I think that would be quite the amazing vacation. I'm thinking of spending three nights, so that I get two full days to lay on the beach or maybe I'll go diving one day. There are supposed to be some really nice reefs out there. I do want to look through what STA's brochure says, though, just to get some ideas of what to do and see if there's anything better. I doubt it though...I think I should book the hotel fast before it fills up! I e-mailed them to check availability (always a good idea before changing flight plans), so hopefully they'll e-mail me back soon.
Well, hope that was short enough....that's all I've got for today! This week looks like a bunch of work, and more bad meals. If you don't believe me, try explaining to me what "beef roll" is. And the last time I ate the chicken lasagna, it presented itself as a sacrifice to the porcelain god....definitely a performance I'd rather not repeat. Chunky food = bad. Okay now that I've given all of you a lovely final mental image, I'm going to go try to talk someone into eating out with me to save me from "josh rogan" (what even is that?!?!).
